HMS Russell is a British pre-dreadnought battleship lying in the waters off Malta, reaching a maximum depth of 113.7 m, making it one of the deepest wreck dives in the Maltese archipelago.
The dive is classified as technical, with the wreck sitting on the bottom at depth and requiring advanced trimix or equivalent CCR certification, along with significant experience on dives in the 70–90 m-plus range with complex decompression obligations. Open-circuit dives are possible but carry very short bottom times and large gas requirements; a rebreather such as a CCR is generally the more practical approach at this depth.
As part of Malta's managed underwater cultural heritage, HMS Russell is dived under Heritage Malta's framework through registered dive centres and clubs.
