Idol Bay is a rock reef system just west of Latitude Rock, off Forster in New South Wales. Depths run to about 12 metres, and the site is fairly well sheltered from current and swell.
The reef is a garden of rock covered in colourful sponges and kelp beds, with many bommies, gutters and reef structures separated by sandy patches. Some of the bommies come close to the surface.
Shrimp, nudibranchs and moray eels sit in the nooks and crannies. Blue spotted stingrays are very common on the sandy bottom between the reef structures, and eagle rays, bull rays, yellow tail kingfish and turtles can also be seen over the sand.
