La Caleta lies on the southwest coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, near the small fishing settlement of the same name close to Costa Adeje. This stretch of coastline is volcanic, with rocky shoreline giving way to reef dive sites along the Atlantic-facing shore of the island. Divers at La Caleta Reef have reported Canary damsel, ornate wrasse, European parrotfish and Macaronesian toby among the rocky terrain, along with Sally Lightfoot crabs working the shallows. Common bottlenose dolphins and short-finned pilot whales have also been spotted in the waters off this stretch of coast, though sightings of these larger animals are occasional rather than a given on any particular dive.
