Lantern Point, also known as Lighthouse Point or Ras l-Irqieqa in Maltese, is a boat-access dive site off the island of Comino and is considered one of the most popular dives in the area. It is typically reached by boat from the northern Malta/Ċirkewwa area and has no shore entry.
The terrain is a dramatic combination of wall, reef, shallow plateau, large boulders, caverns and a well-known vertical chimney tunnel. The chimney starts at around 6 m and exits into a cave at roughly 16 m, with the outer wall continuing deeper; verified maximum depth is 17 m. The bottom is rock throughout, and the underwater topography includes tunnels, caves and passages.
Marine life at the site includes groupers, lobsters, moray eels and moray eels; groupers and lobsters are specifically associated with the chimney feature. The site carries a strong current, and while it is rated suitable for Open Water Diver certification and is considered beginner to easy-intermediate level, divers should be prepared for those conditions.
