Le Chaouen is a cargo ship wreck lying off Planier Island, outside Marseille, that sank in 1970. It rests at a maximum depth of 35 m, with its shallowest point at 10 m, making the wreck accessible across a good range of depths. Planier Island is a no-take zone, so the biodiversity around and within the wreck is fully preserved, and the site is noted for being particularly rich in fish.
Access to Le Chaouen is by boat, with a certification and experience level equivalent to PE20–PE40 required. The site suits divers with a moderate level of experience, reflecting the depth range involved.
