Maha Gala is a very large reef in the Negombo area of Sri Lanka, at 14 to 16 metres. It is a good site for training dives at various levels, and more than one dive is needed to explore it fully.
Lobsters, groupers, snappers and lionfish are seen on the reef, and divers have also reported honeycomb moray, blue stripe snappers, fusiliers and marble rays here. Large whip type black coral grows along the top of the reef, together with anemones.
