Maya Bay is a shallow reef dive site in the Phi Phi archipelago, Thailand, suited to beginners and those still in training. The site sits within the national park, and a marine park fee applies on top of dive costs. Maximum depth is 19 metres, and the terrain is a reef that stays shallow and calm, making it one of the most accessible sites in the area.
The site is known for its sharks in the shallows: blacktip reef sharks are resident here and tend to be skittish rather than curious, so staying low and still rather than chasing them gives the best results. Turtles and tropical fish round out the regular sightings.
Conditions at Maya Bay are generally calm, though strong currents can occur. Visibility across the Phi Phi area runs from 15 to 30 metres depending on season. Water temperature sits around 29 degrees year-round, making a 3 mm wetsuit sufficient. The best diving window is November to April during the dry season, when water is calmer and visibility is at its peak; May to October brings more unpredictable conditions.
Entry is by boat. No Open Water certification is required beyond beginner level, and the site is specifically recommended for new divers and those in training alongside Anemone Reef and Bida Nai.
