Nuku Reef is a large reef in the Somosomo Strait, between Taveuni and Vanua Levu in Fiji, part of the Rainbow Reef area. It is used for snorkelling and diving.
The bottom is pure white sand dotted with large coral bommies, covered in hard and soft corals with small and large fish in many colours. The current that runs through the strait feeds the corals, and the soft coral blooms here form large bushes in pink, orange and brown.
Currents are usually gentle to moderate, which makes for an easy drift, and the site suits beginners. Snorkellers and divers drift along the reef with the current and are picked up at the finishing spot, so there is no need to swim back to the start.
