Pettico Wick is a sheltered bay on the north side of the St Abbs headland. It is reached by going north and around the headland, and it is more sheltered than the water around the headland itself.
The best-known feature is a large rock known locally as the Letterbox. You swim around the base of the rock to find a small opening, then enter a dark, narrow passageway that runs right through the heart of the rock. The swim-through gives the rock its name, and the passage walls are decorated with marine life.
Beyond the rock, the wreck of the SS Odense lies nearby, where corroding metal wreckage sits among rocks and gullies. On the way across, divers have found a lumpsucker in bright spawning colours guarding its nest site.
