The Annapolis is the former HMCS Annapolis, a 366 foot destroyer class warship sunk on purpose as an artificial reef in Howe Sound, British Columbia. It is the latest artificial reef sunk in the province, after seven years of preparation. It lies at Halkett Bay, about a 20 minute boat ride from mainland Vancouver.
The wreck offers plenty to see for recreational divers, and also more challenging areas for technical and wreck divers. It is used for training and is good for photography.
Depth and conditions call for experience. Some sections exceed recreational limits, and the water is dark and cold year-round. The dive demands excellent buoyancy and awareness, and is rated advanced. Deep Diver or Advanced certification is suggested, with redundant gas and lighting and a conservative dive plan.
