Cuevas De Afuera is a reef and wall dive site located among a group of outer reefs approximately 23 minutes by boat from the dock, sitting at a maximum depth of 52 feet (16 metres). It is part of a set of reefs that also includes La Iglesia, Punta Negra, San Miguel, La Herradura, Grampin, El Túnel, San Toribio, and others, all situated around 40 minutes from the dock and typically visited as a second dive after wrecks.
The terrain combines reef and wall diving features, offering an accessible maximum depth that suits beginner divers while still providing enough relief to interest more experienced visitors. The site is open year-round.
Marine life at Cuevas De Afuera includes moray eels, reef sharks, rays, nurse sharks, sea turtles, colorful tropical fish, lobsters, crabs, and barracudas. The outer reefs in this group are noted for exuberant and unique marine life.
Conditions run from mild to strong current, so divers should be prepared for active water. Water temperature ranges from 24–26 °C in winter to 27–28 °C in summer, and visibility is generally great. The site involves an overhead environment with fragile formations, so buoyancy control is important and care must be taken not to contact the reef.
