Cypress Canyons is a spur-and-groove reef near Ambergris Caye in Belize, close to Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Water depth is 50 to 109 ft (15 to 33 m), with deep, narrow canyons running perpendicular to the reef line.
Coral spurs crest at 50 to 70 ft (15 to 21 m), while the sand-floored cuts fall away rapidly to about 100 ft (30 m). South of the mooring pin, vertical spurs rise 14 ft (4 m) above the brilliant white sand floor of the adjacent channel, which gives the reef a rugged relief.
The mooring line attaches to coral at 48 ft (15 m), and you enter the water near the midpoint of the coral spurs.
Conditions and features: visibility is excellent. Unique to this site is the concentration of impressive orange and white elkhorn coral. The canyon formations also suit macro photography.
