About this site
Four Sponges is a well rounded dive site on Roatan made up of distinct levels. The buoy lies at a depth of 14 m (45 feet), and the maximum depth is about 36 m (120 feet).
After descending 3 m (10 feet) there is a small wall that descends subtly to a 9 m (30 foot) plateau of sand and rubble. Further on you can descend to 15 m (50 feet), where it drops more dramatically to 27 m (90 feet) and meets hard ground. A gradual descent leads to a nearly flat sandy bottom at 36 m (120 feet).
Look for giant barrel sponge, a variety of whips and plumes, scorpionfish, schools of blue tang, spotted eagle rays and sea turtles. A sand patch often holds a massive concentration of yellow jawfish.
