The Indiana is a historic cargo ship wreck sitting on the sandy seabed off the coast of Worthing, England, in the English Channel. The wreck rests at a maximum depth of 12 metres, making it a well-suited first UK wreck dive for newly qualified or beginner divers building confidence in local conditions.
The ship's skeleton now functions as an artificial reef, its rusted metal framework encrusted with soft corals and offering a network of nooks and crannies for marine life to shelter in. The structure is covered in a variety of marine organisms and has developed into a self-contained ecosystem.
Marine life at the site includes Bibs, Cuttlefish, Bream, Conger eels, lobsters, and large Spider Crabs, all living among and within the wreckage. Fish dart through the gaps in the hull while resident creatures seek shelter deeper inside the structure.
Access is by RIB, launching from Littlehampton Marina. Entry is by backward roll, and ascent is made using a line. Visibility can reach 10 metres under good conditions. A drysuit is recommended for diving this site.
