Laberinto, meaning "labyrinth," is a reef dive site located off Guardalavaca and also accessed from Marina Hemingway, Havana — reached in about 15 minutes by fast boat from the beach or marina. Marina Hemingway is an international port, so divers departing from there must carry their passport.
The underwater topography has a prehistoric, atmospheric quality — ragged rocky outcrops resembling dinosaur armour plating rise into underwater mountains and massive formations, giving the site an extreme and dramatic character. The reef top sits at around 8 metres, with the rocky terrain dropping to a maximum of 35–37.5 metres; a wall descends beyond 40 metres in places. The bottom is rock, and the current is light, making the site diveable with minimal effort.
Visibility regularly extends beyond 30 metres in clear open water surrounding the outcrops. The gentle current and great visibility suit a wide range of certified divers.
The site holds large numbers of barracuda — both juvenile and mature, some exceeding 5 feet — alongside large snapper, Atlantic spadefish, and yellow tails throughout the reef. Occasional sunfish and sharks are encountered here, and large rays with wingspans of 2 metres or more can be spotted over the sandy bottom. Free-swimming rays, morays, and octopi are also present. Hard and soft corals line the wall.
