About this site
Las Anclas is a rocky underwater ridge located between Lanzarote and La Graciosa, stretching for almost a kilometre and notable for combining marine biodiversity with significant historical relics. The southwest side features steep walls and prominent rock formations, while the seabed holds ancient anchors dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, making the site something of an underwater museum of regional maritime history.
The bottom is rock, with a minimum depth of 15 metres and a maximum of 20 metres. The terrain along the ridge varies, with the southwest wall offering the most dramatic relief in the form of steep drops and sculptural rock formations.
Marine life at Las Anclas includes rays, parrotfish, groupers, wrasse, and the relatively rare black drum fish, alongside algae, sponges, and small invertebrates distributed across the rocky substrate.
