Las Redes is a shallow reef at Akumal on the Mexican Caribbean coast, lying in about 40 to 60 ft (12 to 18 m) of water. Its name means the nets, because the first explorers of the Akumal reef found a giant commercial fishing net blanketing it. The net has since been removed.
The reef is known for plenty of life. Schooling fish, barracuda, stingrays and lobsters are common, and with luck you will see turtles. Currents are light and conditions are usually calm.
