Lekuan I is one of the three Lekuan sites on Bunaken Island in Bunaken National Park, North Sulawesi, and one of the most famous in the park. The steep wall drops to 100 metres and more. It is good for gentle drift dives, with relatively gentle currents.
The site is known for the number of green sea turtles that live here, huge ones that often rest on the ledges or cruise by in the blue, with hawksbills too. Counts of 30 to 40 turtles on one dive have been reported. Schooling fusiliers, passing jacks and trevally, and the occasional tuna swim along the wall. Whitetip reef sharks live in the deeper recesses of the wall, often in pairs.
On the way up, the reef top is alive with clouds of sergeant majors and red-tooth triggerfish, and scorpionfish sit nestled in the coral.
