Lone Tree is a shore dive in Timor-Leste, named after a single tree that is long gone. It lies in front of an abandoned graveyard whose tombs have been destroyed.
You enter from the shore and swim over beautiful shallow corals to a white sand patch with coral bommies. From there you can go left or right. On the right is a deep wall dive. On the left is a deep sloping reef with very healthy coral and a big diversity of fish. Depths run from 5 to 50 m.
The shallow area holds a huge anemone garden full of clownfish, more than you can count. At 5 m it is good for safety stops and snorkellers. Lionfish and scorpionfish hide in the deep part, and sharks are often sighted. Devil rays, whitetip reef sharks and Napoleon wrasse are possible.
Access from the beach is easy at any time, and the required skill is Open Water Diver. The site is hot, as there are no trees for shade.
