Mali Plavnik is a dive site around a small island of the same name lying off the coast of the larger island of Plavnik, in the northern Adriatic. The underwater topography is best described as submerged mountains: several rock towers rise from depth, their tips breaking the surface or remaining just below it, and divers can circle around them to explore each one.
The wall drops in places to beyond 40 metres over a rocky bottom, making for significant vertical relief. At 18 metres a cave cuts into the rock, and a monkfish of around one metre in length is a regular resident there. The wall itself is densely populated with large scorpion fish, blue-stripped squat lobster, and other crab species.
The cave at 18 metres is the main hazard to be aware of when planning the dive.
