Martin Island is a reef dive site in Sydney's waters, accessible by boat, and notable for hosting a resident colony of seals.
The reef reaches a maximum depth of 19.5 m, with a bottom type of reef. The site suits beginner divers, though deeper sections carry medium current and require more care.
Martin Island's marine life includes weedy sea dragons, turtles, blue grouper, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, pygmy pipehorses, reef sharks, Port Jackson sharks, wobbegong, pomfrets, red Indian fish, eagle rays, giant cuttlefish, humpback whales, dolphins, and a colony of seals. Port Jackson sharks are more reliably seen in winter.
Conditions vary with season and swell direction: the site is protected in northerly swells but exposed to southerlies greater than 1.2 m, which should be avoided. Water temperature ranges from 15–24°C year-round, and an incoming tide is preferred; the outgoing tide creates stronger currents in deeper sections. Visibility is generally good, benefiting from the site's offshore position. Hazards include fishing lines, sea urchins, southerly swells, and currents in deeper areas.
