Mesa is a shore-entry dive site on the Santa Barbara coast of California, accessed via Mesa Lane, which leads to a long staircase down to a sandy beach at the base of the cliffs. The site stretches southward along the shoreline toward Leadbetter Point, also known as Santa Barbara Point.
The bottom is sandy, with seagrass covering the seafloor closer to shore and bladderwrack growing along rock outcrops. Giant kelp becomes more prominent further offshore, appearing at around 15–20 ft (4.5–6 m) depth. The maximum depth is 20 m. Entry is from the beach, with the kelp bed located to the left and offshore from the base of the stairs.
Leopard sharks and stingrays are regularly encountered in the area. The site rates as beginner level, though divers should be aware that surfers frequent the waters directly offshore, and closer to Leadbetter Point there are typically more swimmers. Spearfishing is also practiced in this stretch of water, so situational awareness is important.
