Miraflores lies off Cuba's northern coast in the Camagüey archipelago area, part of the shallow coastal shelf and cay system that runs along Jardines del Rey. Divers here have reported a reef community typical of these waters, including Atlantic blue tang and Brazilian ocean surgeonfish moving over coral growth made up of lettuce coral, lobed and massive starlet coral, mountainous star coral, and mustard hill coral. Redband, stoplight, and striped parrotfish have also been noted working the reef. The site sits within Cuba's broader northern reef system, where coral heads and cay-sheltered shelves are characteristic of the terrain.
