Oak Park is a shallow shore dive in the Sydney area, with a maximum depth of only 8 to 10 m. The dive begins right off the beach or beside the Oak Park ocean pool, so access is simple. It is best at low tide for easier entry and exit, though conditions stay manageable most of the tidal cycle, and the site is exposed to swell.
The active reef and wall cover about one hectare, and an estimated 200 to 300 marine species live here, including about 130 species of fish. Kelpy rocks and boulders shelter a varied community. Rays glide over the sandy patches and dolphins occasionally visit.
The reef wall forms an arc, which makes it easy to follow out and back, so navigation is straightforward for new divers.
