Ponta Preta is a volcanic rock plateau dive site whose name comes from the black colour of its rocks — "preta" meaning black in Portuguese. It reaches a maximum depth of 31 metres and is rated for level 2 (intermediate) divers, with a typical navigation time of around 20 minutes.
The site is characterised by a plateau of volcanic rock, and the bottom type throughout is rock. The terrain's dark volcanic character gives the site its distinctive identity underwater.
Marine life at Ponta Preta is notably varied: moray eels, yellow fin croakers, sargos, and groupers are well represented across the site, and encounters with turtles and nurse sharks are possible here.
