Shark Point is a shallow site in Vaavu Atoll in the Maldives, close to Fulidhoo Island, known for the nurse sharks that gather there in numbers.
The bottom is a flat expanse of sand about 10 metres deep, with no coral and minimal current, so it is an easy dive and can also be freedived or snorkelled. Boats anchor over the site.
Nurse sharks swirl around divers in a dense crowd, and some have been seen using their fins to walk along the sand while searching for food. The sharks have learned to link boat engine noise with food, and they come to the boat when the engine is revved. Some boats at this site feed the sharks, and the practice is not uniformly controlled. Scuba and freediving should not be mixed on the same day because of decompression sickness risk.
