Stage Fort Park is a beginner shore dive in New England, entered from the park beside the harbor. Maximum depth is 20 feet (6 metres), and the rocky area is shallower still, at only 10 to 15 feet (3 to 5 metres).
The bottom is almost entirely sand with a few scattered rocks. The rocks are closely spaced and are home to some invertebrate life, and they are also the most likely place to find any fish that have wandered this far into the harbor.
The shallow, sheltered water makes it a good place for training dives, especially when the weather rules out other nearby sites.
