About this site

Tawala Sanctuary is a protected marine sanctuary off Panglao Island, Philippines, reached by a short five-minute boat ride from Alona Beach. The reef runs from 5 metres (16 feet) at its shallowest to a maximum of 20 metres (66 feet), with well-preserved coral formations throughout.

The site is a hotspot for macro photography, with nudibranchs, shrimps, and frogfish among the critters divers regularly encounter. Reef fish are abundant as well, including clownfish, parrotfish, and butterflyfish.

Calm, shallow water makes Tawala Sanctuary well suited to beginner divers, though strong currents can occasionally be present. The site also works for snorkellers.
