The Ancient Mariner is a 165-foot (50 m) wreck off Pompano Beach, Florida, lying at 55 to 70 feet (17 to 21 m), and open to Open Water divers. She was launched in 1934 as a Prohibition runner and served as a sub-chaser and convoy escort in the Second World War. After she was decommissioned in 1964 she became a floating restaurant, first Ft. Lauderdale's Livingstone Landing, then the Ancient Mariner, and was sunk as an artificial reef in June 1991 off Deerfield Beach.
She sits upright with a slight list to port and the bow pointing southeast. Because she is close to the natural reef, fish move back and forth and the wreck is covered in life. A large goliath grouper guards the wreckage and can usually be found in the wheelhouse. There are easy penetration areas.
If there is no current, divers can swim off the bow on a 150 degree heading for about 200 feet to find a tug.
