Anemone Reef is a dive site in Thailand, next to Shark Point and the King Cruiser wreck. It is a large limestone pinnacle that rises from the seabed to more than 30 m, and it is named for the countless anemones that cover the rock. Soft coral covers it too, and the quantity and variety of soft corals and gorgonians make it a favourite with photographers and with divers on naturalist courses.
The site is fairly small, and you normally circle it several times on one dive. The dive usually starts with a search for leopard sharks sleeping on the sandy bottom. Cleaner shrimps, seahorses and ghost pipefish live on the reef, and turtles and occasionally a whale shark visit.
Dives run from 5 to 25 m, visibility is 10 to 25 m, and the current ranges from none to strong. Open Water certification is required. The pinnacle is shallow and a hazard to boats, and anemones can give a mild sting. Water temperature is 28 to 30°C, and the best season is roughly February to November.
