Coral Garden

Coral Garden is a shallow reef dive in the Chole Bay area of Mafia Island, Tanzania. The dive starts around shallow coral bommies, and you zig-zag in and out of them. Look for lionfish, morays, leaf fish, crocodile fish and scorpion fish. The maximum depth is about 14 to 18 m, and the visibility is good.

Further along you cross a large area of stag coral filled with sweeper fish and reach a shallow reef. Peacock mantis shrimp hide in the reef here, and marbled torpedo rays are often seen.

Coral Gardens is also described as a very large area of coral outcrops lying in a wedge behind the Kinasi and Chole walls. The coral is very densely packed and continuous behind Kinasi Wall, while elsewhere it is separated by seagrass and sand patches. Fish diversity is very high, with colourful corals and anemones, and the shallow water gives excellent visibility, so it suits photography. The site is often dived as the last phase of one of the wall dives, and snorkelers can enjoy it behind Kinasi Wall at low tide.
