Crystal Rock is a pinnacle dive in the north of Komodo National Park, Indonesia, listed at 10 to 30 m. The main attraction is pelagic action and sharks, with white-tip and grey reef sharks and tuna in the blue water. Shotgun and Crystal Rock also get occasional manta visits, when currents bring nutrient-rich water through the channels.
The currents vary with the tide and can be strong, with down-currents and swirling water, so the site is best suited to Advanced Open Water divers. Dive at slack tide where you can. The water is 25 to 29°C, and the dry season, from about July to October, is the favoured period.
