About this site
Dumbo's Drop-Off is a wall dive on the East End of Grand Cayman, in the High Rock zone. The mooring pin is at 20 m (67 ft) and the wall reaches about 30 m (100 ft).
The site is named for an elephant sculpture that sits on the reef at around 24 m (80 ft). The story is that a group of dive staff placed it there, chained and padlocked it to the reef and dropped the key into the deep. The chain has long since rusted away, and the elephant is now overgrown with algae and coral. It can be tricky to spot, so keep watching when you reach the ledge.
The pin sits at the bottom of a sloped miniwall, with the elephant's perch and the main wall a short swim south. Multiple ledges give a horizontal contrast to the steep drop-off and shelter Surgeonfish, Butterflyfish and Damselfish.
