Guy Harvey is a deep wreck off Pompano Beach, in the Fort Lauderdale area of South Florida. She is a 185 foot (56 m) freighter, 30 feet (9 m) wide, sitting upright with her bow pointing south. The depth range is 100 to 144 feet (30 to 44 m), and the listed maximum is 44.1 m.
The ship was built in Holland in 1957. She spent her last ten years sailing between Haiti and the Lesser Antilles as the Lady Kimberly, then was sold to be made into an artificial reef. White silhouettes of local fish species were painted on the hull by a wildlife artist, and she was sunk in May 1997 in about 144 feet (44 m) of water.
What you see: the white murals were meant to stand out against the blue water, but the wreck has since been completely colonised by corals, sponges and gorgonians, and growth covers the paintings. Jacks, barracuda and queen angelfish come close.
This is an anchor dive and a deep one that borders on technical diving. Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent is the minimum, and deep diving experience is required.
