Hamda

Hamda, also known as Stone Beach or Lion's Head, is a reef wall site on Big Giftun in the Giftun Islands, the closest island group to Hurghada, reached by day boat in over 30 minutes. The site lies within Giftun National Park. A small wall drops from the reef top to 12–15 metres, then steps down in terraces past 35–50 metres, flanked by vertical walls to the north and south; a plateau sits above the steeper sections.

The terrain features coral towers cut by caverns and swim-throughs along the northern drift line, and a coral garden in excellent condition around the mooring, including a gigantic green lettuce coral at around 30 metres almost directly beneath the boat. Regularly seen marine life includes morays, stonefish, scorpionfish, and fish schools above the plateau.

Visibility runs 10–30 metres and current is moderate. Water temperature is around 26–27°C. The site is fully exposed. Access is by day boat only, with divers either drifting from the north or circling the coral garden from the mooring. The site is rated easy and is recommended from Open Water level upward, making it suitable for divers of all experience levels.
