Kankirixche is a semi-open cavern cenote located in Yucatan, Mexico, near Merida. It is a large underground cavern whose surface opening spans roughly 25 metres (82 feet) long by 15 metres (49 feet) wide, giving way to a cavernous interior that drops to a maximum depth of 50 metres (164 feet) and opens into a series of underwater galleries.
The cenote's interior is defined by stalactite formations and tree roots that extend down into the water column. Visibility in the azure waters is outstanding, and the clear, free-fall descent through the opening is a notable feature of the dive.
Water temperature holds steady at 24–26°C (74–76°F) year round. The verified difficulty rating is technical, reflecting the cave environment and the depth available, so divers should have appropriate training before entering the deeper galleries, even though the surface entry point is accessible to those with an entry-level certification for shallower portions.
