Raya Y Estrella sits off Salamanquilla Island, part of the Islas de San Bernardo group along the Caribbean coast of Colombia's Bolívar department, near the fishing town of Rincón del Mar. This stretch of coast is known for its scattered coral cays and shallow reef patches, usually reached by small boat from the mainland. Divers here have reported boulder star coral, lobed star coral, mountainous star coral, mustard hill coral, and thin leaf lettuce coral forming the reef structure, along with stoplight and striped parrotfish moving through it.
