Sunken Village lies among Palau's Rock Islands, within the limestone island and lagoon system of Koror State in Micronesia, where sites named for old submerged settlement remains are found in several sheltered, shallow stretches of water. Divers here have reported bluefin trevally, whitetip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and marbled eels moving through the area, along with boring giant clams, shadowfin soldierfish, and tawny hermit crabs tucked into the reef structure. The surrounding waters are part of Palau's broader protected inner lagoon, characterized by a mix of coral and rock formations typical of the Rock Islands.
