About this site
Underwater Volcano is a shallow dive site off Pulau Weh with a natural hot spring on the seabed, where bubbles rise from cracks and fissures in the bottom. The depth runs from 5 to 12 metres, which makes it a short and easy dive.
Divers feel a gentle warmth close to the spring, and there is a hint of sulphur at the surface. Marine life does well in these conditions, and five-lined snappers, map pufferfish and small groupers have adapted to the setting.
Beyond the hot spring, the site has coral formations and gigantic gorgonian sea fans, with anthias, damselfish and juvenile white tip reef sharks reported around them.
