Anse Major is a secluded cove on Mahé, Seychelles, reached on foot along a coastal path. It sits on a wilder stretch of coastline and sees far fewer visitors than the main beaches, giving it a noticeably quieter atmosphere. The site is reef-bottomed with clear water, and the best snorkelling is found close to the rocks.
Access requires a walk in and out, so planning is essential: bring water, suitable footwear, and allow enough time for the return journey. The isolation that makes the spot appealing also means help is not close at hand if something goes wrong. Swimming in pairs is strongly advised here precisely because of that remoteness.
The transition seasons around April–May and October–November tend to offer the most readable sea conditions. Visibility is generally good, though current can run strong; if you find yourself having to kick hard to hold position, the advice is to call the dive and head back. Tropical fish congregate around the rocky areas when the water is calm and clear.
Anse Major is suited to independent, organised divers and snorkellers rather than complete beginners on their first outing. The site rewards the effort involved in reaching it, but the access on foot, the strong current potential, and the isolation all demand a solid level of self-sufficiency and experience.
