The Artificial Reef is a boat dive off the south coast of Gran Canaria, on a sandy bottom where concrete blocks and metal tubes are scattered about. It sits in the southern group of sites alongside Pasito Blanco and the Meteor II wreck.
It is one of five locations in a project run by the University of Las Palmas, set up to learn which materials and shapes best attract and shelter the marine species of the Canary Islands. The structures gather a surprising amount of life despite their plain look.
The maximum depth is about 20 m (66 ft), there is no current, and the site is rated beginner. Water temperature is around 18 to 22 C (64 to 72 F), reaching 23 C (73 F) at times. Garden eels, angel sharks, rays and electric rays, octopus, moray eels, nudibranchs and cuttlefish are all listed here.
Confirmed by our research team, reported by independent divers, or observed nearby via iNaturalist — each entry is labelled with its source.
