Avlaki, known locally as "The Big Blue," is an ancient port site on the west side of the Kassandra peninsula, at the end of Thermaikos Bay. The name Avlaki means "furrow" in Greek, which describes the rock sloping massif that forms a natural furrow divers follow as they descend deeper. The seabed alternates between sand and rock formations, and access to the site can involve driving through a pinewood forest to reach the entry point.
The terrain features beautiful precipices and the characteristic rock furrow that channels the descent, giving the sensation of underwater flight on the deeper sections.
Marine life at Avlaki is notably rich, with large groupers among the most reliably seen residents. The crystal-clear water and the relative scarcity of other divers add to the experience, and dolphins are occasionally encountered passing through the site.
Visibility is one of Avlaki's defining qualities, ranging from 10 m up to 50 m.
