Baixa Do Sul is a pinnacle in the channel between Faial and Pico, with its shallowest peak at 8 metres and depths down to 40 metres. The dive is rated advanced and a strong current is possible.
The shallow plateau is covered with peacock's tail algae and populated by dense shoals of ornate and turkish wrasses. Barracudas, jacks, dusky groupers, stingrays and anthias are common sightings. Manta rays are occasionally seen between August and September.
