Bat Cave is a cave dive site located at Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida, reached by boat because it sits beyond the bay where strong currents and large waves make shore access impractical. To enter, divers descend roughly 10 metres to pass under an arch, then swim approximately 20 metres horizontally to surface inside the cave. The cavern itself is spacious and calm, with dramatic natural light filtering through a large opening in the ceiling, making it a draw for underwater photographers.
The cave interior is home to hundreds of bats roosting above the waterline, which is the primary reason divers make the trip. The surrounding reef at Menjangan — the island group this site is part of — features white-tip sharks, black sharks, reef sharks, dogtooth tuna, turtles, groupers, and a variety of reef fish, with nudibranchs, shrimp, and pygmy seahorses also present on the reef.
Conditions at Bat Cave are exposed and can be demanding: current is strong and waves can be significant, so a boat drop outside the bay is the standard entry method. Water temperature ranges from 26–30°C and the site is diveable year-round. Maximum depth is 28 metres. The strong current and wave exposure make this site suitable for intermediate to experienced divers rather than beginners.
