Boss Reef

Boss Reef is an extensive reef that begins just outside St George's harbour in Grenada and runs for six miles southwest towards Point Saline. The dive profile is about 20 to 80 feet (6 to 25 metres) over a gently sloping bottom.

The reef is carpeted in patches of finger and pillar corals, branching sea rods, sea whips and forests of soft brown coral trees. Shoals of blue Creole wrasse move through it. Caribbean lobsters look out from canyons and crevices, and stingrays, conch and octopus sit in the sand patches that dot the reef.

A retired Coast Guard vessel, the Tyrrel Bay, sits upright off the edge of Boss Reef in the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area at 50 to 70 feet (15 to 20 metres). It has been cleaned and prepared so divers can tour from the captain's quarters to the engine room, galley and bridge, then continue over Boss Reef. Another wreck has also been placed on the reef more recently, and marine life is taking hold around it.
