Cala Cortina is a sheltered bay shore dive located near the port city of Cartagena, on Spain's Costa Cálida, offering a pretty reef with swim-throughs and good marine life across a depth range of 4 to 26 metres. Entry is a straightforward walk-in from the shore, making it accessible for courses, try dives, and novice divers as well as more experienced divers looking for a relaxed reef dive. An Open Water certification is the minimum requirement.
The reef features varied formations including swim-throughs, and the site is particularly well regarded for macro life, with unusual species such as Flying Gurnard and the shy Pearly Razorfish found lurking among the reef. Other residents include octopus, moray eels, conger eels, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, barracuda, sea bream, and wrasse.
The bay is sheltered and protected, keeping currents light and conditions forgiving. Summer and early autumn bring the warmest water and best visibility across the area, making those months the most popular time to dive here.
