About this site

Calabash Caye is a wall dive site located at Turneffe Atoll, with the top of the wall sitting at around 50 feet (15 metres) deep. Wide chutes descend from the wall's crest, which is covered in yellow tube sponges, purple sea whips, and brain coral, while a large sand flat stretches along the top of the wall.

The sand flat is home to garden eels and yellowhead jawfish, making it a productive area for close-focus wide-angle photography. Along the wall and in surrounding areas, divers regularly encounter hawksbill turtles, spotted drum, scrawled cowfish, and spotted morays. The site is also noted for pelagic encounters.

Current at Calabash Caye is light, and the site sits within 10 to 30 minutes by boat from the atoll's accommodation, making scheduling flexible around weather conditions. Maximum depth reaches 16.7 metres.
