Fish Rock sits off the Kona coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, in Hawaii County waters, where lava rock shoreline drops into the Pacific and sites are typically reached by small boat from nearby harbors. The reef here reaches a maximum depth of around 35 metres, with divers noting strong current, surge, and variable visibility at times. Reported marine life is extensive: manta rays and spinner dolphins passing through, reef species such as Moorish idols and yellow tangs, and urchins including the Indo-Pacific rock-boring urchin and red pencil urchin tucked among the lava structure alongside thin-shelled rock crabs. Divers have also logged sharks here, including bull, hammerhead, nurse, leopard/zebra, and wobbegong, plus eagle rays, grouper, octopus, lionfish, trevally, mantis shrimp, and nudibranchs. Not every one of these shows up on a given dive, but the range reported points to a site with varied structure and a mix of pelagic and bottom-dwelling life.
