French Cap Cay is a pinnacle dive site located south of St. Thomas, USVI, known for dramatic wall drops that fall to depths of 40–90 ft (roughly 12–27 m). The site is reached by boat, with departures typically from the south side of the island, and is suited to advanced, experienced divers only.
The terrain is defined by a pinnacle rising from depth with sheer wall sections and strong currents sweeping across the structure. Those currents are the engine of the site, pushing in open-water pelagic species and supporting coral formations that are among the healthiest in the USVI. Visibility across the region runs 60–100+ ft year-round, peaking at 80–100+ ft between January and June when seas are calmest; summer months can see visibility dip to 60–80 ft due to plankton blooms, though warmer water during that period brings enhanced macro life.
The strong, persistent current and advanced rating make French Cap unsuitable for novice divers; only certified, experienced divers should attempt it.
