Kontiki Reef is a reef dive site in Mactan, Cebu, in the Philippines. It has a good shallow flat area that suits novice divers, covered with sea grass and colonies of colourful corals. The dive is easy and suits divers of all levels.
The slope below goes down to 50 metres and then gets steeper to 100 metres, where the bottom becomes flat, sandy and pebbly with scattered purple anemones and soft corals. Corals get denser down to 25 to 30 metres, where the slope turns into a wall. On the steep slope there is an artificial reef, a big piece of metal sunk in the 1990s, which is now completely covered in hard and soft corals.
The best part of the site is the shallow stretch from 8 to 20 metres, where all the critters live around the rocks and the big clamp-shaped metal structure. It is excellent for macro photography, and regular night dives are made here.
